Was Chase online down for 24 hours again

We’ve gotten a few scattered reports that Chase again claimed to be offline for an “upgrade” for 24 hours or so.

More information from Computerworld:

Computerworld – Firefox users may have had trouble accessing JPMorgan Chase’s website chase.com today when the bank experienced problems with an outdated security certificate.

According to a Chase spokesman, the Firefox certificate was updated on the bank’s servers in about 45 minutes, resolving the issue.

Almost one year ago, Chase experienced a more severe outage that shut out millions of customers from its online banking site for three days.

That earlier outage stemmed from a failure related to Chase’s user authentication database.

Today’s outage involved a lapsed security certificate. Website servers present certificates to a customer’s browsers to verify identities. This certificate, which has information such as the address of the site, is verified by a third party that is trusted by a user’s computer.

A certificate that is outdated or lapsed would appear as having been revoked by the issuing server.

While short-lived, today’s outage was still a major issue, according to market research firm Celent.

“No bank wants its customers to be presented with the message, “you may be communicating with an attacker,” Celent analyst Jacob Jegher wrote in a blog.

Jegher said if the issue hadn’t been resolved quickly, Chase could have ended up paying out reimbursements to customers unable to pay bills on time.

Yes, Chase online and all services were down from Saturday night until Sunday around noon (CST). I could not even use my card to make a purchase or even use an ATM Saturday night. When I called Chase, they said there was nothing they could do about it and couldn’t give an estimated time of when my card should work again. They barely apologized saying I just got caught at a bad time! It’s my money and I should have access to it 24/7! Doing an upgrade to benefit me is no benefit if I can’t access my own money during that time. Completely ridiculous!

They also confirmed that I did not receive anything informing me that services would be down. It’s not a great situation to have to borrow money from someone while out, when they probably don’t believe you that your card is declined due to a system update. How is this legal?

Were they down outside the time parameters in the “notice of scheduled maintenance” message?
I usually don’t pay much attention to that notice and expect online access to be unavailable on Sunday mornings.
I logged on Saturday evening. My card was not declined early Sunday morning when I used it.
They were not down 24 hours to me.

April 1, 2011 Chase online is not available for login. It’s payday, need to see my balance to plan budget for week. Is that too much to ask?

I just tried to check my balance on my chase credit card on their website. i kept getting messages saying that the website’s security ticket has been revoked! does that mean all information has been compromised?! why can’t i find information anywhere about it and what is being done to correct it and if customers’ information has be hacked?!

Chase online down again, on St. Patty’s day night. debit card declined as a result. How is this legal exactly? This happens at least 5 times a year to me.
